The House

This is the roof of the house so good.

These are the walls that are made of wood.
[Extend hands parallel.]
These are the windows that let in the light.
[Make a square by extending index fingers up, thumbs out.]
This is the door that shuts so tight.
[Make a square by extending index fingers up, thumbs out.]

The Three Little Pigs

There was a little pig,
And he built himself a house,
For the Wolf was eating
Every pig he saw, saw, saw.
With a huff and then a puff,
Old Wolf ate him soon enough,
For the silly pig had built his house
With straw, straw, straw.

A second little pig,
Built himself a little house,
When he heard the Wolf was
Eating all the pigs, pigs, pigs,
With a huff and then a puff,
Old Wolf ate him soon enough,
For the silly pig had built his house
With twigs, twigs, twigs.

Another little pig,
Built himself a little house,
But he never thought of
Using straw or sticks, sticks, sticks,
With a huff and then a puff,
Old Wolf blew, but not enough,
For this pig got wise and built his house
With bricks, bricks, bricks.

The House That Jack Built by Simms Taback
The House That Jack Built
by Simms Taback

Synopsis: Caldecott Award-winner Simms Taback infuses this favorite children's rhyme with his distinctive, creative flair and humor. His Jack builds a house like no other and fills it with cheeses from all nations, which of course attracts the rat that stirs up the cat. Taback takes the usual cast of characters in this classic cumulative rhyme and presents each in a funny new light that will keep readers laughing. His addition at the end neatly fits an appropriate character into Jack's story and makes his telling even more unique.

Song

Building a House

I'm going to build a little house,
[Form arch over head.]
With windows big and bright.
[Circles around eyes.]
With chimney tall and curling smoke
drifting out of sight.
[Stretch up arms, make drifting motion.]
In winter when the snowflakes fall,
[Flutter hands down.]
Or when I hear a storm,
[Cup hand to ear.]
I'll go inside my little house,
[Crouch inside.]
And I'll be safe and warm.
[Hug self or child.]
