Five Little Children; or, Five Friends

[Artfelt has a Five Friends felt puppet set.]

Five little children playing on a sunny day,
One had to take a nap,
There were only four at play.
Four little children playing a game of ball,
One had to leave when mother gave a call.
Three little children tried to climb a tree,
One when home when he scraped his knee.
Two little children making a mud pie,
One went home when he got mud in his eye.
Only one child playing all alone,
There was a loud clap of thunder,
[Clap hands together.]
And she ran home.

Song

Ten Good Friends

[Artfelt has a Ten Little Children felt puppet set.]

Ten good friends went out to play.
On a bright and sunny day.
One good friend said, “I can’t stay.”
Then there were nine friends left to play.

Repeat for nine, eight, seven, etc.

Two good friends went out to play.
On a bright and sunny day.
One good friend said, “I can’t stay.”
So just one friend was left to play.
So he went home on that sunny day.

SUGGESTION: Act out the rhyme with finger puppets and then
make a circle with arms taking one “friend” off at a time while
counting. Great for dismissal to play yard.

Climb up my apple tree

Shout down my rain barrel
Slide down my cellar door

Say, say, oh playmate
I cannot play with you
My dolly's got the flu
Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo

Ain't got no cellar door
But we'll be jolly friends
Forever more more more more more

Oh Playmate, Come Out and Play With Me
(Version 2)

Say, say, oh playmate,
Come out and play with me
And bring your dollies three
Climb up my apple tree
Slide down my rainbow
Into my cellar door
And we'll be jolly friends
Forever more, 1-2-3-4

It was a rainy day,
She couldn't come out and play
With tearful eyes, she breathed a sigh
And I could hear her say:

Say, say, oh playmate
I cannot play with you
My dolly's got the flu
Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo

Ain't got no rainbow
Ain't got no cellar door
But we'll be jolly friends
Forever more, 1-2-3-4

Puff the Magic Dragon

Puff, the magic dragon live by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honah Lee.
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff
And brought him strings and sealing wax
And other fancy stuff.

Oh... Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honah Lee.

Together they would travel
On a boat with billowed sail,
Jackie kept a lookout
Perched on Puff's gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes
Would bow where'er they came,
Pirate ships would low'r their flag
When Puff roared out his name.

Puff, the magic dragon live by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honah Lee.

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One gray night it happened,
Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon,
He ceased his fearless roar.

Puff, the magic dragon live by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honah Lee.

His head was bent in sorrow---
Green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play
Along the cherry lane
Without his lifelong friend
Puff could not be brave
So Puff that mighty dragon,
Sadly slipped into his cave.

Puff, the magic dragon live by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honah Lee.
