Re: Upcoming Publications Part 5
My retelling of the Swan Maiden legend, "Swan Daughter," is in the January 2005 edition of Twilight Times e-zine.
The January edition was only updated last week due to the publisher's busy schedule, in case anyone is wondering....

Oran Trilogy back in print
Happily, thanks to editor extraordinaire, Sharyn November, my long
out of print trilogy is being reissued by Viking's Firebird imprint.
New
Moon, Sadar's
Keep, and Beldan's
Fire will be available June 2005 (in those wonderful Firebird
reprints--with cool covers).

Re: Oran Trilogy back in print
I'm so pleased about this Midori! I never read or acquired New Moon, but Sadar's Keep and Beldan's Fire are books I've owned since long before SurLaLune existed, back when my only sources for science fiction and fantasy were Waldens and B. Dalton in the mall. Feels like my own personal Dark Ages in memory; I think I'll hug my computer.
Here's links to the books for any interested readers:
New
Moon
Sadar's
Keep
Beldan's
Fire
Thanks to Sharyn, too. I love the new opportunity to read books I missed the first time around from limited accessibility and a teenaged babysitter's finances.

Thanks Heidi! I should also mention that Hannah's
Garden is also being released in paperback the same month
too.

Re: Fox Tails
"Fox Tails," my retelling of the legend of Lady Kuzunoha, is coming
out in the June 2005 Realms
of Fantasy. Paul Lee is the illustrator, and I was really
pleased about that, since he also did the illo for "Yamabushi,"
which is one of the better story illustrations I've ever had.
This all started about a year ago when Jessica asked a question on the SurLaLune board about a play based on the same story, "The White Fox," which put me on to the legend in the first place. Thanks, Jess.
There's a teaser up for it and the other stories on the RoF web site:

Re: New Publications
_Dancing
in Red Shoes Will Kill You_ is a contemporary YA novel by Dorian
Cirrone with fairy tale references, recently released by Harper
Collins.
According to an interview with the author at www.authorlink.com,
"... I realized I wanted to deal with fairy tales that were exclusively about women losing body parts such as Cinderella (toes in earlier versions), The Little Mermaid (tongue) and The Red Shoes (feet)."

Re: New Publications
Hi, all--
It's taken some time but I've at last found my surlalune user name and password. (I got too used to autofill, my computer died, and then ezboard refused to issue me a new password. "That username is already taken." Well, it was, by me. Yes, I should just have registered under a new username.)
Anyway, this is a bit past due, but my story "The Poison Well,"
based on / inspired by the Irish ballad "The Well Below The
Valley," appeared in the Fall 2004 issue of Black Gate. More
recently, however, the story in its entirety has been posted on
the Black Gate website (www.blackgate.com/fiction...ell2.htm).
(Last I checked it wasn't yet linked to from the main page.)
The Planxsty version of the ballad is the one I carry in my head,
but there's also a Roger Drawdy recording, and a rather heavily
censored one (or perhaps just edited for context) sung by a former
Planxsty member at the beginning of the movie "The Magdalen
Sisters." Twilight Tales has put up the first part of an interview
about the story that touches a little bit on this and related ballads
(www.twilighttales.com/mag...=crayons).
Finally, I have a definite September 2005 pub date for my novel
Bear
Daughter.
Cheers,
Judith

Re: New Publications
I had the honor of reading Judith's novel Bear
Daughter in manuscript, and I highly recommend it to
everyone here. Deeply mythic, and beautifully written.

Re: New Publications
Thanks, Terri!! And thanks again for the quote, which they've put on the front cover.
I just received the page proofs yesterday afternoon. A pretty terrifying sign that publication is real and (in the larger scheme of things) imminent.

The Brave Apprentice - coming July 1
Here's another one for the list:
My second novel, The
Brave Apprentice (240 pages, Simon & Schuster/Aladdin Paperbacks)
is in bookstores July 1 2005. (My first, The Thief and the Beanstalk,
arrived in bookstores just a few days ago, on May 1.)
I'm writing fantasy-adventures for YA/middle school readers that are "sequels" to famous fairy tales, telling what happens many decades after the original story. The Brave Apprentice is about what happens fifty years after "The Brave Little Tailor."
In November, watch for my third novel, The
Eye of the Warlock. It's a "Hansel and Gretel" sequel.
(If you're wondering...I'm not writing a novel every 90 days. Been
working on these for a while!)

Midori, your publisher
Would like to ask what you think of your publisher, Midori. I'm trying to get my manuscript accepted but need an honest publisher to approach.

Publishers
Tor is a good house...though most publishers are pretty honest and straight forward, I do recommend using an agent to help you with contracts. Small houses might have more informal relationships, good in the niche markets, but the bigger houses like Tor will take a more corporate approach...which has the advantage of better distribution and review possibilites for new work.

Re: Publishers
"Pay
the Piper" by Son Adam Stemple and me, should be in the
bookstores soon. We will be going to both BEA and ALA for some promotion.
It's based on the Pied Piper of Hamelin.

3rd Annual WisCon issue of Extrapolation...
A new publication of sorts, for anyone interested in feminist criticism ...
The third annual WisCon issue will be on sale at the Aqueduct Press
table at the convention: anybody who won't be attending but is interested
in ordering a copy can do so at: the Extrapolation
homepage.
This year's issue will include the speeches from WisCon 28's Guests of Honor, Patricia McKillip and Eleanor Arnason. In addition, we have great articles on from Maria DeRose, Dominick Grace, Christine Mains, Alison Walker, Elizabeth Woledge, and Elizabeth Wulff looking at a variety of fascinating topics.
I'm looking forward to seeing many of you there, btw!
