Re: I love fairytales and really could use your help(Pleeeee
Why can't you write a novel? Sounds to me like you already have a good idea of where to start, and a good story is grown from a good idea.
People write different ways, many, many different ways, it is up to you to find how you like to write. Some people like plot driven, some people like to have an outline, others, myself included let the story unfold on its own.
For my experience, which is nothing compared to others who post here, I have found that my story grew on its own. Well past the twleve page short story I thought I was going to write...there are parts where I couldn't type fast enough to keep up with the story in my head.
So do what you wish, I think you have a great idea to work from...just please, do not limit yourself by saying you cannot do something because you are only 15, ok?
Good luck,
Valkith

Dumb idea?
No idea of this nature is dumb. It is what you do with it that makes it entertaining, enjoyable and pithy, or dull and witless. In some ways this has been done before, so you must come at it in a new way - one unique to you and your perspective. Why not give it a go and see where your idea takes you or where you take your idea.
Btw, I agree with Valkith, your youth is not necessarily a limiting
factor. In fact, it could be an advantage. It all depends on your
perspective. After all, Mozart's first major opera was performed
when he was 15 (okay, he is an exception and was composing from
age 5, but...).
So, whether short story or novel, sounds like a great summer project. At the very least you'll get something out of the exercise.

Re: Dumb idea?
That plot sounds actually really neat. I don't have any suggestions
or anything but I just wanted to tell you this: I'm 13 and I have
two novels going and I have a friend who is 14 and has six
novels going! I don't see why you say you're too young at 15 to
write a novel!

Re: Dumb idea?
Before you begin writing, you might want to take a look at the libretto from Stephen Sondheim's wonderful musical "Into The Woods" so that you don't approach this subject from the same angle. Sondheim's libretto, which was based on a story by James Lapine, unites Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack And The Beanstalk, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty.

Into the Woods
I might avoid reading Into the Woods for now - in fact, I purposefully avoided mentioning it above. Instead go at it in your own way. Get some of your ideas on paper. See where it takes you. My fear is that if you read ITW you may either be influenced by the story or have your own creativitiy stifled. You can always go back before you write, but after you have brainstormed, to see how if too many of the your ideas match Sondheim's. Chances are, they won't be similar at all.

8o) Thanks
Thanks so much for your support. some of my ideas were having: Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White be best friends living in a storybook world. do you have any ideas to make a creative plot?
i was thinking of incorporating all of the villans of each tale
into my novel all striving for the same evil goal...im not sure
what yet.
i would love to see all of the fairy tale characters work together to prevent the villans of their evil plot.
do YOU guys have any ideas for my story or even what the villans want?
thanks a bunch

Re: 8o) Thanks
The plot is really up to you. I guess that doesn't sound too helpful does it.
Well look at it this way, once you are done writing your story, it will be all yours.
What do villains want? Well what do they want from the stories you mentioned? The Queen in Snow White was upset at growing old (someone correct me if I am wrong) and Snow White surpassing her beauty.
The Step Mother and Step Sisters... were envious of Cinderella's beauty and grace as well.
The Fairy God Mother who wasn't invited to Sleeping Beauty's christening feast, was upset at being overlooked.
Or you can make up you own. Going by todays standards, and heh, standards of old, most want power...world domination...respect...money, and so on...
Usually the heros are reacting to the villains. Thats why it is soo cool to be the villain, you get to shoot first, instead of dodge, you get the witty comments and the bubbling inept henchmen.
Good luck
Val
PS - you might want to try to use the writer's forum, you need to contact Kerrie though.

What a good idea!
This way you can introduce the friends one by one and show what their life is like here, before the villians turn up and start disrupting things.
Why are the villians just now arriving? Did Sleeping Beauty's fairy summon them all for some evil purpose of her own?

villains
what would happen if the villains got what they wanted? would they have to share it between them? (that might not go down too well with some of them...)

Re: 8o)
The most evil? The step mother and daughters are out.
The queen and the fairy god mother, now both of them were willing to kill their heroes...the Queen ordered the huntsman to do it, and he couldn't in the end she gave snow white a posioned aplle, which put her to 'sleep'
The fairy god mother however did the deed herself, making it so that Sleeping Beauty would die when she pricked her finger on a spindle...that takes some audacity. Another fairy who hadn't bestowed her gift changed the doom to have her sleep instead.
The fairy god mother is the most evil in my book, AND the most powerful.

Re: 8o)
I'm not sure if this will help much, but, if you want, I can give you my idea for a plot. I'm probably going to write it eventually but it may give you an idea.

Re: 8o)
The villians wanted status, honor. The queen and steps wanted to get rid of their rivals, the girls who were getting more honor. So if they thought they had got honor now, they might fight over who gets the most.
The fairy was worst. The baby wasn't even a rival. The fairy just didn't have the honor of an invitation, so she sought revenge by attacking the baby.
As for books, there is really no consensus among them, and the books might distract you from your own ideas. What is it about these stories and characters as YOU see them, which interests YOU? And especially about them all living together as friends?

Im stuck
In a sense all fairy tale characters DO live in the same world ... the dream world. The Australian Aborigines have a word, roughly translated dreamtime, which is where dreams, fairy tales, myths, dead people, the future, and altered states of consciousness, all exist.
Here's a suggestion for conflict: what's something *you* want, and have trouble (or have had trouble) getting? Some quality. Your heroes and heroines may want the same thing. Your villains may also want it, but try to get it in bad ways. Just a thought.

RE: I'm stuck
Hi, Elana! I was just looking through your postings, and it seems like you have an intriguing basis for your story. As people have said before, there's really no reason why you couldn't write a novel if you wanted to. Anyway, I noticed that you have been asking a lot of questions of people for ideas for your plot. Why don't you take some time and think about your questions yourself? It would make it more rewarding if you didn't get your plot from everybody else. You have excellent questions, and that's over half the battle. Come up with your own answers for the questions that you've been asking. Getting all the answers from other people makes the story less your own. One of the funnest parts of writing (at least for me) is answering these questions! Don't spoil the brainstorming in your rush to get to the actual phase of writing. Good luck with your ideas!

Re: RE: I'm stuck
I never heard of brainstorming all by oneself! It takes people to bounce off of. Lots of us do just what Elena is doing!
As for what the heroines have that the villians want -- status, or beauty? (Hm, I might do a feminist version where the heroines all had their beauty stolen and went around looking plain and did stuff.)

warning
I should warn you that the bright ideas are only the beginning. It take a lot of writing to get a book written. And then rewritten.
(Ray Bradbury, depressing fellow, once said that there are a million bad words in everyone. To get to the good, publishable words, you must write out every one of the bad ones.)
