Re: Upcoming publications
I've just signed a contract extending my Polish publisher's rights to two of my books for another three years. I notice that the foreign language publishers for these two books all seem to have a penchant for changing the titles. As I can't read the languages (German, Polish, Russian, Korean), I have no idea as to what has been substituted! The books are ‘Annie Stories' and ‘More Annie Stories' and are aimed at teaching parents, teachers and therapists how to help children through crises by creating and telling therapeutic stories. I notice that Amazon is offering a special ‘buy these two books together and get a discount' on the American version of ‘Annie Stories' and the Australian version of ‘Annie Stories' - I guess no-one's told them that the two books are practically identical...

Academic
Not exactly a new publication, but kind of cool anyway. Dr. Marie Nelson at the University of Florida is including my story, "The Right Sort of Flea" in her section on Beowulf. I used to do required reading. Now I _am_ required reading.

ALIA WAKING
Hey all -
So Alia still won't be out until Spring 2003, but Clarion already has a listing on its web site with a great summary.
www.houghtonmifflinbooks....ber=111155
Amazon also already has it listed - though it doesn't list the story as a fantasy, which I'm hoping will change as more info is released about it.
Take care,

Re: Upcoming Publications
A very short short story of mine, "The Cure", inverting some of the Little Red Riding Hood story concepts, has been published at The Vestal Review. You can read it at this site:

More precisely,
I meant, of course, that your stories are so very welcome in the world. Not that you don't produce enough. But you knew that . . . right? (Ah, neuroticism!)

My flash, and first sale, "Staining Snow", is now up at

Re: More precisely,
Kate,
I kind of hoped that's what you meant. Just kidding. Nah, girl, I knew what you meant! No more neuroticism.
Much love,
Christopher

Re: More precisely,
Chris! It's you! I haven't seen you since....well, since we were dirty dancing at Wiscon, in fact.

dirty dancing
Hey Nalo! I hear there are pictures of that night floating around.
You just can't beat a night of dirty dancing at Wiscon. Or a night of dirty dancing period.
Chris
P.S. For those who have never attended Wiscon, see what you're missing? Craziness. Utter craziness.

Re: Upcoming Publications
Hello again. I've posted once before a few months back with a question about the mermaid/otter story from the Book of the Dun Cow. Came back today to post another query and saw this tantalizing list of upcoming publications.
What a wonderful lot of new stories and books to look for! Real riches.
My own next one (after a long, long drought) will be Hatching Magic*, a new middle-grade/contemporary/time-travel fantasy (very hard to explain! time-traveling wizards and runaway wyverns, set in present-day Boston), due out May 2003 from Atheneum. Ages 10-12. A switch from the 14-up work I did 1987-1993.
*Formerly listed on Amazon under another title as coming out June 2002, but that's another story.

Re: Upcoming Publications
Dang. My library is packed. Ann D., did you have a story in one of Terri and Ellen's "fairy tale" anthologies? A Victorian piece where the "princess" who falls asleep for a century is a black man? Many apologies if I'm describing it badly.

Carolyn Dunn's gorgeous new poetry volume
Carolyn: Have you seen Charles de Lint's review of your poetry collection
Outfoxing Coyote, in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction?
Here's an on-line copy of the review: www.sfsite.com/fsf/depts/cdl0210.htm.

Speaking of good reviews, I noticed that Holly Black's Tithe got a starred review in the Forecast section of the Oct. 28th Publisher's Weekly. Congratulations!

It's out!
I think. I haven't seen one yet, but Gavin says they were trying to have copies ready in time for World Fantasy Con. If you are passing the Small Beer Press table, look to see if they have a chapbook with a bear on the cover!
And stop to talk to Gavin (Grant) and Kelly (Link), who are great fun. And look at some of their other publications, which includes Kelly's own wonderful collection.
The chapbook is called "Lord Stink and Other Stories,"
and two of the stories are based on, or inspired by, north Pacific
folklore and myth. The title story is an animal husband story...
with a bear, of course. It's orderable from www.lcrw.net/smallbeer
Feeling rather excited even though I haven't laid hands on it yet,
Judith
