So many interesting people. I actually feel out of place, but maybe, as I get to know you...
I'm a Star Wars fan. Borderline fanatic. I am a moderator at another exboard, Third Incarnation. I moderate three forums. One is and general Star Wars forum, the second is a Star Wars Readers Club, and the third is basically a catch all. A place for everyone to post their own art, poetry, and stories. You're all welcome to stop by.
My reason for stopping here is that I was doing a search for information
on Hans Bemmann's book Stone and Flute. I read it about
15 years ago. It still resonates with me. I have the book buried
in a box some where, but since I'm remodling the den, I can't seem
to come up with it. I want to go back and travel Fargland (?) again.
I'm going to be starting a Readers Club at Third Incarnation, if
any of you would like to stop by.

Welcome to the board. I apologize that I don't have the answer with information on Stone & Flute, but I did want to tell you--as you say you are a Star Wars fan(atic)--that there's a neat anthology of stories about Star Wars coming out in September. It's called A Galaxy Not So Far Away: Writers and Artists on 25 Years of Star Wars. (I've got a story in it called "Star Wars Tale"). It's edited by Glenn Kenny of Premiere Magazine. I don't have it right in front of me but there are lots of neat people in it. I can post the table of contents if you're interested.

Snow White & Rose Red & Intro
Hi Heidi & everyone. I am so happy to have found you all. I was making a Snow White & Rose Red page for my own website when I discovered Heidi's garden. I am so inspired & delighted!
I am exploring this tale (& others) because I study archetypal psychology~ whereby symbols may speak to the soul, making conscious the inner landscape of our dreaming.
The version of the story I am using is illustrated by Barbara Cooney. Let me know if you want a glimpse of some pics. You are quite welcome to use them to add to your collection. The page is only half finished. There will be more pics added soon. This version came out first in 1965, hence the limited palette.
By day, I work as a school teacher with young children at a big multicultural school. I find it exciting to rub shoulders with artists & writers here ~ & I feel cheeky enough to ask if any have study materials or ideas for 6-12 year olds. I am the webmaster at my school & the Principal has asked me to put something on the web pages to help develop literacy skills.
These children are challenged in keeping anywhere near English speaking kids in the standardised tests. Their do worst at narrative exercises. That is why they need all the help they can get. The exposure they get to Fairy Tales is dwindling also, due to teachers focusing on other genres.
It is a pleasure to be here. Stories speak to my soul.

Fate occassionally gives you a kick.
I was laid off from my writing job this morning, my office just another bit of New Economy road kill. I tried to smile as I told my boss, "Well, I suppose this means I'm to spend the summer working on my novel and catching up on the backlog of art."
I'm an artist of several mediums, a writer, and yet, somehow, the
day job always gets in the way. I'm infrequently published and exhibited
even less. I don't know if that is because I'm lazy, "responsible,"
both, or perhaps just a coward. At the moment, I've got an in-progress
historical/occult/mystery novel, an original divination card deck,
a promise to illustrate an original fairytale and several paintings
owed to a local gallery. Bad artist. No biscuit. Despite my failings,
I love mythology, fairytales and folklore, which mingles strangely
with my geek-tendencies. Did you know The Violet Fairy Book
came in PDA format? Oh yeah!
This evening, I stumbled upon this board while doing a google.com search for kitsune. (Kitsune is related to looking for a job how? Um, don't ask. Monster.com got boring.) A lucky find though I admit being a bit intimidated considering some of the names I saw at the start of this introduction thread.
All of this is just a lengthy way of saying, "Hello, hello."

Hi, my name is Chris Barzak. I'm de-lurking myself, because I slipped up at Wiscon while talking to Terri, and she now knows I've visited here in the past without posting.
I'm a writer of short stories, mostly fantastical in nature: anything from magical realism to fairy tale revisioning, surrealism to science fiction. I've had a handful of short stories published, and I hope more will be published in the years to come. (In my profile, you can find a link to my website, where you can actually read a story, or find a link to where some of my stories are published on the internet. I must place a disclaimer here about the story on my website. There is a minor logical inconsistency in it, which I've asked my web designer to fix. I made a revision to the story two years after it's initial publication, and forgot to revise another sentence that needed to change after the initial revision. Oh well, that's how it goes some times.)
I met several of you at Wiscon this year, and some of you I've already met (Hi Greg, Terri, Midori, Kate!). I actually found this site when I was researching information on Remedios Varo, a surrealist painter whom I love. I'm currently a grad student in literature and creative writing, and my master's thesis is a collection of stories inspired by the works of women surrealist painters, like Varo, Leonora Carrington, Dorothea Tanning, and Frida Kahlo.
I'm really hyped to be here, not lurking anymore. I'll probably post in some of my favorite sections in the near future, but for now, it's nice to meet you all.

I just found the site today, looking for fairy stories to help me in my personal life.
I am a 39-year-old computer science professor, writing short stories on the side, SF and Fantasy including especially fairy tales, 6 published. The "personal life" aspect: last year I joined the ManKind Project (www.mkp.org) and found, well, an end to 10 years of depression, a support system for the first time ever, brotherhood, and a lot of joy. So I'm ready to take on something new, in this case, the archetype of the evil mother, who's pushing me around in my own skull way too much ... fairy tales seem useful in this Jungian way to some (as Robert Bly, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, and Bruno Bettelheim would claim, at least), so I'm cruising for inspiration.
...and if I get an idea for a new fairy tales, all the better.
What a cool board!

To all the new people--and those of you who finally stopped lurking (hi Chris!) welcome to the board. I'll put in a plug here for everyone to check out Chris's short stories--they're fabulous.
William--you might want to visit the archives for more discussion on the evil (or at least problematic) stepmother--I seem to remember some pretty lively conversation--along with some wonderful reading suggestions. Heidi has happily arranged the archived by subject headings so it shouldn't be too difficult to zero in on it.

A little late, but I wanted to give a little introduction to Ms. Holly Black. I met her at this year's Readercon, introducing myself after noticing we went to several of the same panel discussions. Her book _Tithe_ is coming out this October from Simon and Schuster. Glad you could join us, Holly!
