Song of the Old Caravan Days, The (Nali Ng'enze)

THORN bush and desert scrub,
  Rank grass and sand,
Stretches the wilderness
  On every hand.
Into the amber west
  Drops the red Sun;
Sudden the darkness falls,
  Whisp'ring of home.
Blue sparkling waters,
  Clear crystal streams,
Green sunny gardens,
  Land of my dreams.
By the camp-fire we sit,
  Sorrow and I.
God of the wilderness,
  Oh, let me die.
