Mourning dolls
Can anyone tell me about these dolls,I have found out that they
exist..there were makers..some came to the US from England..one
was made of a 3yr old boy of English Royalty...I brought a 1860
doll from France..the only thing I can figure out that they are
rare and were most likely sculpted for the rich.

Re: Mourning Dolls
I'm not very familiar with them but as an educated guess I would say that they are from the Victorian period and were made to remember children who died. Many dolls of the period would use the child's own hair and be fashioned to look like the child.

Re: Mourning Dolls
We had a brief thread on the topic last year: large victorian dolls, for bereaved parents??. Not sure if the links are still active, but it may be a good place to start.
