Glennie Boots and Bow-Wow
My "Pennsylvania Dutch" (actually German) grandmother sometimes referred to "The Glennie Boots and Bow-Wow" (spelling uncertain) when she was trying to frighten me into doing something, such as returning to the house when it was dark. She never described what it was or they were, but the manner in which she would say "Get in here or the Glennie Boots and Bow-Wow is going to get you" implied something(s) potentially harmful. I can only assume "Bow-Wow" may refer to a dog or hound. I would appreciate any information regarding the subject. Thank you. Tom

Made up?
maybe your grandma made them up, or just doesn't know herself.

Glennie Boots and Bow-Wow
My mother and I both believe she very well may have made them up or perhaps it is an obscure piece of PA Dutch or German Bavarian folklore. My grandmother passed away many years ago. Thanks for your interest, Matt.

Re: Glennie Boots and Bow-Wow
There was a discussion about a year ago regarding the bogeyman. Here's the link:
www.surlalunefairytales.com/boardarchives/2005/jan2005/bogeyman1.html
A book by Marina Warner about the Bogeyman was mentioned. Here's the Amazon link:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/0374223017/qid=1105140519/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-0199466-0970562?s=books&v=glance&n=283155
I haven't read the book, but perhaps a version of Glennie Boots is mentioned. If you find out who she was, please share. I'd be interested.
Best,
Alice
