Need Help
Hey, I'm new here and am seeking help with something.
I've decided to study fairy tales for my HSC Individual Project. I'm writing two short stories both revolving around a base idea (a typical fairy tale) but presenting different aspects of fairy tales (eg sugar-coated and sinister).

I'd really appreciate some brainstorming as to the traditional elements of a fairy tale. This site has helped a lot but I'd love to hear other people's views.

Sorry if this has been discussed before. :)

That's a tough one
That's a tall order....magic has always been important in fairy tales, thus the "fairy" part. The more sinister side usually includes a witch or bad magician of some kind, and quite frequently involves cannibalism (Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel, etc.)

The sweet part doesn't often come until the end, when everything usually works out for the protagonist. This usually involves a marriage, a return home, or an aquisition of wealth.

I'm sorry I couldn't go into greater depth, but I hope I helped a little!

Re: That's a tough one
The fairy tale is, for the most part, fantasy short stories. There's a "fairy tale style" of story telling, which involves a focus more upon the elements and how the story is told rather than the actual prose.
