Refusal of the Call tales
Hello Everyone,
Any ideas as far as tales where the call of the Hero is completely refused, and the person's life becomes petrified, the kingdom a wasteland, etc. Thanks for your help.

Re: Refusal of the Call tales
The TaNaKh (the Hebrew scriptures) contain several tales of this sort, including the story of the spies and the story of Jonah, as well as, arguably, the story of Esau/Edom and the lentil soup. There are contrasting tales in the same collection, most notably the calls of Avraham and of Yishaiyahu (Isaiah). I would venture to guess that the Midrashic literature contains elaborations of these tales, but I am not yet sufficiently knowledgeable to help you look there.
In quite another tradition, you might want to look at the literature of the "expressive men's movement": Bly, Hillman, Moore & Gillette, et al.

Thanks
Paul,
Thanks for the tips - I'll definitely check those out. Also, I appreciated your personal anecdote on my other post about understanding suffering. I'll keep that in mind.
