Brigit Pegeen Kelly
I have a feeling that I first saw mention of Brigit Pegeen Kelly, the contemporary American poet, here on surlalune, but can't trace the reference. No matter. Simply to say I find her work teeming with a powerful sense of myth and fable. Her poems have been compared to rare birds, elaborate tapestries, and various other things, and they repay numerous visits.
She has three collections out : "In
Place of Trumpets", "Song"
and "The
Orchard." Her landscapes are dreamlike, hallucinatory,
beautiful and menacing in about equal measure.

Brigit
Hey -- I know Brigit! And I'm sure she'd be very glad to hear your praise of her work. I second your recommendation; she's a singular talent.
Personally, she is, as you might expect, a lovely woman, gentle and kind. The sort of person you are always glad to see, and better for after.

Kellysearsmith, that is good to hear-about her personality, I mean. As a poet myself, I'm aware that poets can be annoying or even ghastly, just like any other human being on the planet ! It's always a great pleasure to encounter wonderful work by someone who is equally wonderful.
One of the things that fascinates me about Brigit's work is the way it really plumbs the depths of the collective unconscious (or is that subconscious ?). It's not ironic, it's not confessional, it doesn't appear to have any agenda beyond being what it is.
