Site for Nursery Rhymes?
Does anyone know of a site, like Surlalune, that has the history behind the rhymes, illustrations, plus modern interpretations, etc.? Perhaps an essay on Endicott Studios? I'm into the nursery rhymes as well as fairy tales, and any info would be immensely appreciated.
Thanks,

Re: Site for Nursery Rhymes?
I'm not aware of reliable sites, but I do have some books listed on the subject on this following page: Nursery Rhyme Minute. Just look in the right hand column.
Or visit my Listmania list of titles on Amazon.com at Learn About Nursery Rhymes.
I'm too tired to list the actual titles here right now.

Re: Site for Nursery Rhymes?
A quick search for "nursery rhyme history" brought up a number of sites. Unfortunately, I think many of the origin stories may themselves be fiction. For instance, I've heard arguments both ways for Ring Around the Rosie.

Re: Site for Nursery Rhymes?
Iona and Peter Opie have edited a large number of nursery and schoolyard
rhymes compilations. Some of these compilations provide histories
and meanings, as well as some analysis. A partial listing of their
works is here: www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/170903/103-9738827-4874215
I don't know if anything they've done is on line, but they are a valuable source for this kind of information.
Best,
Alice
