men of fairy tales
Hi,

I am doing an undergraduate English research paper on fairy tales and I wanted to know where I might find information on the men in fairy tales. More particular the fathers. What I have noticed is these men are often weak and never stand up to the women they are married to and allow them to abuse their daughters. I havenot found much written about this. Any help anyone could give me on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

fathers
Maria Tatar talks about weak and absent fathers in "The Hard Facts of the Grimms' Fairy Tales," especially the end of the chapter "From Nags to Witches" and a bit in "Taming the Beast." I'd advise you to go to amazon.com and use the 'search inside' feature on Tatar's book to look up 'fathers,' and see where you go from there.
