Just a bit...
Interesting what Google will find. I am looking for information about mythological analysis, and one of the books I had found was 'Meditations on Middle-Earth'. Looking for a listing of some common mythological archetypes, I decided to google for that title, and see what came up. This messageboard had a post waaayyy back in 2001 about the book when it was first released, it seems.
I was intrigued to see that it appears to be a rather common desire for good heroines in mythologies and fairy tales. The book (series) I am doing a research paper on (and thus searching for mythological analysis for) is the Wheel of Time, by Robert Jordan. He tends to defy many 'traditions' of the fantasy genre, providing many shades of gray rather than the absolute black and white evil common in fiction. His books are an example of 'Tolkienesque' fantasy, or epic fantasy. They paint a fantastic tapestry of characters and events and places, providing for a whole new world, in and of itself.
In any case, this is kind of a random post, as I've just spent the last 4 hours researching and I needed a break. The main 'point' of this, I suppose, is just to plug his books a bit, as he includes quite a few heroines in his books, and women happen to be a significant force.
So yeah, if you want, go ahead and delete this post if you aren't supposed to 'advertise' other authors.
