Trying to name a set of fairytale books
When I was younger I had this fantastic set of hard back fairy tale
books. But they've vanished into thin air... no one can remember
where they went :(
The covers were shiny and glossy, size A4, in pastel shades. In each book there were the most amazing illustrations of the highest caibre.
I remember the pictures more then the stories.
One of the pictures I remember was of a one legged tin soldier standing by a tin ballerina by a roasting hot fireplace, and they were melting away into a heart shaped blob of molten metal... And it took up the entire page.
I had them in the early ninetes, and I've searched second hand book shops for years...
I have no idea who the illustrator was, the author or even the name... All I have to go on are the pictures!
I'll be very thankful for anything :)

Re: Trying to name a set of fairytale books
I'm not familiar with British paper sizes, so this could be off-base, but could you be talking about the Colored Fairy Books of Andrew Lang? They sound like the likeliest candidates ...
The illustration sounds like an image from Hans Christian Andersen's "The Tin Soldier," though, and I'm not sure if HCA made it into any of the CFBs. Hm. I'll have to check the collection when I get home ...

Re: Trying to name a set of fairytale books
Nah, A4 is the British equivalent of 8.5 x 11, except it's slightly longer and not as wide. It sounds like a series of picture books, maybe?

Re: Trying to name a set of fairytale books
The story mentioned is definately "The Tin Soldier," but it could have been published in many books. I think the only way you'll find it is to accidently run across it somewhere like a second-hand bookstore.
