Hidden meanings...
Heya, I need to do a report on one fairytale and how it can have a different meaning to what is actually told, for example...sleeping beauty, when she pricks her finger and bleeds that is actually a symbol for her becomming a woman and starting her...cycle:rolleyes . Or red rising hood, the wolf could actually be a man who likes little girls and eating her could be a symbol for assult...
I need to pick one fairy tale so first can you suggest any and any possible hidden meaning/symbols for other things.
Thanks a lot

Re: Hidden meanings...
Think of symbolism and "hidden meanings" in fairytales like special effects in movies:
Ie., it wouldn't be as interesting a story without them, but if you can see the wires....they didn't work. :) |

Little Red
The entire story of Little Red Riding Hood is a symbol for molestation or rape. Check out Charles Perrault's original moral...it's pretty explicit.

Re: Little Red
I don't know, I kinda like "Red Rising Hood." :lol
Gives the whole theme a bit more... never mind. ;) |

solar myths
Depending on your teacher's education and sense of humor.... I'd probably do something on the old 'solar myth' theory.
Here's a little about it, and about some other theories you could use.

Path of Pins or the Path of Needles
If you do decide to use Red Riding Hood, I would definately recommend
reading first this wonderful article by Terri Windling on her Endicott
Studio page on
Red Riding Hood. It makes an interesting diversion into other
hidden meanings in the story besides the possible assault of sexual
predators that you mentioned.
If you're having trouble picking a fairy tale, I would recommend one that you find fascinating, meaningful or even confusing.
