36 items "discovered" for Fairy Tale Artifact Exhi
Just imagine....and you'll believe....
So far I have accumulated 36 items for the display I will be having at our local library in Spring. I have started to work backwards, finding an item and then connecting a story with the item. I've been combing local antique and resale-junque shops finding small display cases or
glass fronted shadow boxes to display the items "safely"
as this also gives the illusion of museum pieces. Also,
being rare artifacts I wouldn't want them to get swiped.
I recently found a very old antiquated hub to a wooden wheel, like an old wooden cart or horse drawn wagon.
Any thoughts as to a fairy tale, legend etc to connect this to? A carriage? A buggy?
I did find a large very very old mirror, elongated one,
about 4 feet long and 1 1/2 wide....old as the hills,
dust of the ages on it.... with space at the top to add an old picture. This may become a wicked step mother's mirror, but not sure. Mayby I could add a collage at the top space, filled with old brocade fabrics and sprigs of St John's Wort to ward off the evil entities of Fairy Kingdom? Or, just a picture of the step Mother from an old book on Snow White? I want it to look "real" but not sure what would have been in the top of this mirror in Snow White's Step Mother's quarters.

Re: 36 items "discovered" for Fairy Tale Artifact
Could the wheel hub be all that's left of Cinderella's coach when it changed back into its pumpkin? Or perhaps, it could be from the king's coach when he asked Puss in Boots who owned the beautiful lands he was driving through. Then there's the knight in King Arthur's tale (which one now escapes me) who was condemned to travel in an old cart.
Such fun!

This is a great idea
This sounds like a very rewarding exhibition.
On an aside to the actual artifacts, I have found that Universities and Colleges often have unused glass-fronted cases, and sometimes even glass fronted bookshelves that just sit around in junk rooms waiting to be destroyed or thrown away. They are often delighted when you offer to take them off their hands, often at no fee. I tend to tip the facilities management staff with a tub of chocolates for their assistance; and they are probably the best people to approach in the first instance.

To display what's make believe....
Thank you both for your replies. Great ideas!
I was struggling with how to display some of these items
as the library has just one tiny display case to secure things in. Otherwise the items will be situated on top of
shelves etc. I trust all the people in this small town, but I worry kids will "play" with some of it. I'll also check with some of the local antique dealers to see about use of display cases.
