Sleeping Beauty compared with Mulan?
~Hey~
~I would really appreciate it if you could answer this question for me as it is part of my a-level media work.~
"How and why has the representation of female characters in Disney films changed since the 1950's? Focusing on Sleeping Beauty and Mulan."
Thankyou!

Re: Sleeping Beauty compared with Mulan?
Dear Laura:
The board tends to avoid directly answering homework questions ... but if you felt like sharing some of your own thoughts on the evolution of presentations of femininity, I feel pretty certain that a fascinating discussion would result!
Best,
Helen

Re: Sleeping Beauty compared with Mulan?
I suggest you look at the management of Disney Studios when the two films were made.

Sleeping beauty/Mulan
Im not super fermilier with Sleeping Beauty but If im right, you could look at the actual story itself. How the wemon solved the problems or other people solved them for them.

Re: Sleeping Beauty v Mulan
Yeah, like how Aurora lay and slept the whole time and it was her prince and the fairies who fought Malificant, while Mulan went out there and kicked Hun butt on her own - okay, with help, but she was part of the butt-kicking,a big part. You could say something about how this shows Disney's attitude to women in the 50s,and now, even though Mulan is an ancient Chinese story - I can't remember if it's real or not,but if you're talking Disney,it shouldn't matter.
Expand on those and make them more formal, and you should be off to a good start.I did Standard Grade English and Drama,so I think I know what I'm talking about.(If I don't,how the HELL did I get a 1 and 2 respectively?!?!!Aaarrrrggggghhhhh!
