Neil Gaiman- Anansi Boys
I won't spoil the story to anyone... I just took the book today! ... Someone has comments on it?

This is for Londoneers: Neil Gaiman will be in London on the 8th of November, at the Institute of Education in Bedford Way for an interview with Lenny Henry (sorry, I don't know who Lenny is - just that Neil will be there!). The ticket is 7 pounds and it starts at 7.00 p.m.

On the 12th he will sign books at Forbidden Planet in Shaftebury Avenue at.10.00 a.m.

Neil Gaiman-Anansi Boys
I haven't read the book yet but was lucky enough to see Gaiman speak in Berkeley (California) recently. Very entertaining and thoughtful--turned even the dumbest questions from the audience into interesting food for thought. I do think that his Stardust is a great original fairy tale and the Sandman is a brilliant feat in storytelling that uses lots of fairy tale elements (particularly love "Ramadan" and the one where the girl goes into the land she fantasized about as a kid--can't remember the title). He said Anansi Boys is merely a "companion" to American Gods, not a sequel, but I still feel like I should read Gods first--anyone have any thoughts on that? Does either novel compare to others I mentioned here?

Re: Neil Gaiman-Anansi Boys
I have not yet read Anansi Boys, but I did read American Gods, which I think I liked better than all his other novels--not that I disliked any. It pulls in so many different myths from the world, cleverly. I don't know whether reading American Gods first is necessary (since, as I said before, I haven't read Anansi), but it's worth the read regardless, and, without giving anything away about the book, Anansi does play a role in the book.

Best,
Alice

You know, upon careful consideration, I have to say that if anything, reading Anansi Boys first will give you an added insight into American Gods?

I think I agree with Helen, actually.

Aw shoot. Can I do a reading do-over? (You know, erase what I know and start again...) :D
