Research Paper Help!
I'm doing a research paper for my American Literature class. My topic is American fairy tales and children's stories. I've got all these books, but I'm having a hard time deciding on a solid thesis and finding stories to back me up. Any ideas? I've got a rough draft due soon, and I'm stressing so any help would be greatly appreciated.:eek Thanks!

Re: Research Paper Help!
I think you need to narrow down the topic and define it more clearly. It's too broad. You could cover how American fairy tales influence children's stories or how American fairy tales originate with published stories for children.

Carl Sandburg
I've always felt like Carl Sandburg discovered or imagined a folklore for America. There's so much in Rootabega Stories that speaks specifically to the ideology of adventure and discovery, tempered with sadness for the Native American populations whose ways of life were overcome. A lot of the stories have to do with Western Expansion and the Industrial Revolution, too. I won't be more specific without knowing if you're interested, but I'd be happy to talk more about this if you end up writing on something like it :)

Which books do you have? Maybe we could find some common factors and thesis ideas among those you've got already.

Some Ideas
I've been thinking about doing something along the lines of fairy tales using the seven deadly sins to teach children lessons, or that they help them work out internal conflicts. I'd also thought about doing something with general motifs or how fairy tales were not originally written for children. But then I have a hard time finding books.
The main books I've been using are The Witch Must Die; How Fairy Tales Shape Our Lives by Sheldon Cashdan and Off With Their Heads!:Fairy Tales and the Culture of Children by Maria Tatar.
