Help me name these tales PLEASE!
Hello Everybody
There are so many intelligent people in this Discussion Board that I just couldn't help not asking this question.
My mother told me these tales when I was 3 years old, and her godmother told them to her when she was a kid. Now 16 years later these tales have all but become erased from my memory and my mothers.
My mother and I would very much like to read them again so I need help in identifying the names of these 2 tales.
tale 1
There once was a mother who had 2 daughters. One daughter was lazy
the other hard working. One day she sent the hardworking daughter
to wash (entrails on the river). When she came back home she had
a gold star on her forehead. She said that it had fallen to her
from the sky. The lazy daughter grew jealous of this so she decided
to do chores for a change and went out to wash (entrails on the
river). When she came back home she had dung on her forehead. She
washed her forehead over and over again but it would not come off.
Her efforts to remove it were in vain. :evil
tale 2
A girl went to do chores and a ball of rice fell from her basket. The ball rolled down the hill and it became bigger. The girl chased the ball of rice and lead her... somewhere. :rollin
That's it people.
I parenthesized (entrails on the river) in tale 1 because I wasn't sure if it was a part of the story or not.
As for tale 2, well... it's been so long since i've heard this story that all i remember is that little part i wrote. :eek
So please, if there are any stories out there that resemble Tale 1 or Tale 2 let me know.
Thank you for taking your time to read this! :)

kind/unkind girls
There are several stories about sisters (or sister and stepsister) that begin and end like that. The nice sister goes out and comes back with a star (or some other sort of nice thing), the mean lazy sister follows but comes back with some bad thing.
This book might have your version, you could probably order it from your library:
wsupress.wayne.edu/litera...tstkug.htm
Roberts, Warren E. The Tale of the Kind and the Unkind Girls. Berlin: Walter de Gruyter, 1958. [The Kind / Unkind Girls stories (Aarne-Thompson tale type 480) often combine the following the river subtype with tale type 510A (Cinderella). Roberts' materials are universal and are especially rich in European, Indian, and Far Eastern examples. See especially chapter 2.]
Here's a thread on some of them:

And another:

I've got some notes for four Kind/Unkind sisters showing their different motives.

Good luck!
