Endicott Studio: Autumn Issue 2005
Dear Friends,
The new Autumn Issue of the Journal of Mythic Arts is now available on the Endicott Studio website. It's a great issue themed around food!
Terri's Letter From the Editor as usual is filled with fascinating information about the mythical role of food in many cultures, as well as current Endicott news and contributors' notes.
In the Reading Room there are two wonderful articles on food and markets:
The Lore of Simple Things-Milk, Honey and Bread by Ari Berk--a wonderful examination of the role of these three foods on myth and culture (accompanied by Wendy Froud's gorgeous fairy sculptures!)
Rates of (Ex)Change; The Goblin Market and Voodoo Accounting by Helen Pilinovsky--a fascinating take on the market relationships with the world of fairy. What's the real price of making a bargain with the fantastic world. Helen's article looks at classic works, such Rossetti's "Goblin Market" and modern works, such as Holly Black's novels and Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess's Stardust.
The Boy Who Was Born Wrapped In Barbed Wire is a gorgeous short story written by Chris Barzak, who is fast on his way to becoming an important young writer to watch.
In the art gallery we are especially pleased to bring the writings, poetry and extraordinary art of an incredibly talented young artist, Oliver Hunter.
In the Crossroads I spent some time reflecting on the role of Cooks (and with a special thanks to all on the board who helped me get my thoughts together!) and wrote In the Praise of the Cook.
Oh and do we have poets!! we are thrilled to offer a full house from Nathalie F. Andersen, Nan Fry, Joseph Stanton, Mark Yakich and Lawrence Schimel.
