Re: Didn't we do this before?
I honestly could not choose five books. In fact I had a rather seering remark from my mother before my recent birthday that had me blushing a bit. She wanted to know what I wanted for my birthday for a few times I said the whatever you get will be nice and time with my family (both very true). Finally I caved and said that I really wanted the Annotated Grimm's Fairy Tales. My mother hoping I suppose that I was going to say something useful like socks, new trousers or a haircut then looking a bit stern remarked, "You don't have to own every book you see." Which is a very silly remark, if I owned every book I saw I would be even more buried in my little apartment than I am now. (I work at a brick and mortar and previously worked at a library.) I suppose her remark had a sting of truth to it though because I do remember blushing. (I'm one of those creatures who flushes up readily in any moment of passion or shame.) But then again she did buy me the book.
I was very amused by everyone's bookcases. I'm glad I'm not the only one tripping over books. I often feel a little guilty, just a very little bit that my husband's books could easily fit on the old three-shelved bookcase he brought with him while mine well... They are in a rather tall bookcase in the hall (we have a one bedroom apartment very very small), in the closets stacked up, currently in a few chairs, under the couch and coffeetable, on the coffeetable, under the bed, stacked under endtables. I can't forget to include my stacked cubes of Japanese manga (double and triple shelved) with the latest editions piled on top.
But I refuse to choose five books. Depending on the day of the week and what I'm currently reading that could vary between Neil Gaiman to Isak Dinesen.

bookcases
I just had to come on and say I got some new cases. Four of them! Not only is there actually room for all my books, there is room to expand. Yay! I love expanding...

5 books ?
I have zillions of books, some of which I REALLY wouldn't want to be without. Now, let's think :
REMEDIOS VARO:UNEXPECTED JOURNEYS : Janet Kaplan
CATALOGUE RAISONNEE: REMEDIOS VARO: various authors
LEONORA CARRINGTON (I can't recall the subtitle) : SUSAN ABERTH
GRIMMS MAERCHEN : guess ! !
ALICE IN WONDERLAND & ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS
: Lewis Carroll
What common theme runs through all these ? Dreams, archetypes, the power of the imagination. :)
best wishes to all
love
