Thanks for making this a subject, Divided Self [R.D. Laings, perhaps?
:) love that book]. I've been meaning to email Heidi but this belongs
out in public--- Heidi, this is the most wonderful site and my favorite
on the Internet. It never fails to excite and inform me, has so
much to offer about many of my most passionate interests, is a wonderful
research tool, AND has brought into my writing room some of the
people whose work I have read or aim to read. It's a great community
and a great resource and since I didn't get to meet you at WisCon,
I just want to say now: THANK YOU for all your devotion and hard
work!!!

Small thanks for big things
While the subject is on the table… I have lost track of how many years I’ve watched this site grow in content and patronage but it’s been many (!) and from many different places in the world too. Being able to log into the site has helped me retain my enthusiasm and passion for fairytales no matter what job or project I happen to be working on. When I’ve been lucky enough to be working creatively this site has been a wonderful research tool and forum for exploring the questions peculiar to our community. The policy of the board in having respect for all who contribute, in keeping an open mind and in treating everyone as an equal enthusiast has made this board unique and accessible to people of all ages and experience – something that reflects, for me, the very nature of fairytales. Though I rarely have much to add to a discussion I feel you should know how much people (ie. I) value your efforts in making such a beautiful & informative site and board available (and current). Sur La Lune is a constant surprising pleasure to visit – you should know that your work has truly made a difference in many lives on a daily basis. My sincere gratitude and thanks for the company and encouragement along the fairytale road.

Thank you, KathieRose and inkgypsy. I get so much out of the site myself while sitting at my messy, isolated desk that I sometimes forget that it's serving others, too. It's always a blessing to be reminded of the greater capacity.
I want to thank everyone on the board for making this a wonderful place to visit. Every participant makes a valuable contribution by adding a voice and a point of view. I learn everyday, but mostly that there is still so much more to learn. I forget what I have learned until I am asked a question and so much information surfaces in my mind. I am challenged by the majority of questions I still don't have the knowledge to answer. This board makes the work lighter and more enjoyable.
SurLaLune is turning seven this year and still growing by leaps and bounds. It's hard for me to imagine my life before it or without it.

I definately have to add a thank you as well. I'm certainly not a folklore scholar but your site remains a favorite corner of webspace for me. *a little bit of sanctuary, if you will.* It feeds my long, deep-seated love of fairy tales by encouraging more intellectual and creative interaction with them. And on a practical end, I not only get some fabulous book recommendations for myself but as a bookseller I also get to pass on those stories to others. I've had a few returning young adult customers that have really opened up to the books featured here.

A wonderful site
Yes, Heidi, as you well know, I love your site. The main pages are amazing, and have indeed grown over the years. Your endless energy has created a much deserved reputatin both for the site and yourself.
And as for the forum, it is truly a forum. I still remember finding this site many, many years ago and tenatively expressing my opinion, only to be encouraged by none other than Terri Windling! To name just a few of regular the posters who have brighten my life: I remember some of Helen's first posts and being amazed at her recall and logic. She never disappoints. I loved it when Erica Carlson joined the conversations - she is so young and vibrant. Nalo brings yet another perspective, and what can one say about Jane Yolen. But Judith Berman is one of my favorites. She always has some interesting spin on the stories of the peoples and area that I live in and live with. She enriches my day to day life, as well as my intellectual life. Finding this forum has been like being placed in an enlightened circle where ideas can be freely exchanged.

Me too! I supposed I'd been taking the site for granted, as something that had grown slowly through the ages....
But so many wonderful new books added all at once lately! So many hours it must have taken.
I'm impressed and grateful!
Who is doing the scanning, the proofreading? Do you need volunteers?

I've done all the work so far, Rosemary. I'm still scanning and adding, but have slowed down the past several weeks with summer and family commitments.
I'm still contemplating scanning and adding Roalfe Cox's Cinderella book, but find it much more daunting than Facetious Nights with all of the many languages and format issues. But a digital version would be so nice to facilitate searching the text. If I decide to do it, I might beg for volunteers to proofread.
And thanks to everyone else for the kind words and enthusiasm...

Another Token of Thanks
I too want to thank you, Heidi, for this tremendous site. I've been using it and recommending it to others for many years. It grows richer and more impressive every day.
I had poked my head into this forum occasionally, but chose not
to post until last month. Sadly, my wonderful and erudite :) comments
are now lost forever. I seem to recall adding to the suggestions
of books for the nine-year-old (as I teach 4th) and also asking
for help with my current task --- a speech I'm writing on literary
fairy tales and audience for next month's Children's Literature
New England conference. No matter --- I'll get there eventually.
(Although I keep starting it over and over --- very fairy-tale like
it is.)

I want to say thank you to Heidi, too. I've been looking at this site for at least 4 years, and I love how classy it is! I've mostly been looking at writer's group discussion boards, and even though Surlalune is not a writer's group per se, I feel like I've learned so much more here than anywhere else. I want to echo what Inkgypsy had to say, about everyone showing respect for each other on this board. On some boards, you can almost hear the members looking down their nose at each other, especially if you ask a question that they think is "stupid". I really appreciate being able to come here and read everyone's questions and responses and feel like I'm reading a true discussion board, and not a verbal wrestling match board. Many thanks to you, Heidi!
