Looking for specific Wild Swans Illustrations
i've been looking for a version of this book with certain illustrations in it. i remember the illustrations vividly, but i do not remember the author or even the version of the story i read. the illustrations are in color and for some reason remind me of the ones in Snow White that were illustrated by Nancy Ekholm Burkert. It seems like they may have been done with the same technique. They look very detailed almost like the pictures were made with a thousand tiny strokes of a pen, or etched, or scratched or something. in the version i read about the girl and her swan brothers, there is a picture of her in the water with the toads turned to flowers on her head and chest, there's also a picture of her out on a rock in the middle of some water, and also her sewing with the nettle in the forest. please help me find the book with these illustrations. thank you so much for your time.

Re: Looking for specific Wild Swans Illustrations
Hi Ilada,
I don't recognize the book from your description (but I'm not the likeliest person here to do so, anyway). I do have a couple of questions that might help jar someone's memory: Do you remember roughly when you read the book (year or decade, maybe)? Also, can you remember whether the book contained the single Wild Swans story or if it was a collection of stories? The more detail the better for this sort of thing.
Best,
Erica

NOt sure if this is the one you want. There is a handsomely done version of Andersen's Wild Swans, translated by Naomi Lewis, illustrated by Anne Yvonne Gilbert. I've only seen sample pages--so I can't be sure. But the art is fairly lush, and somewhat reminiscent of Burkholm's style (a bit more fluid perhaps...but deeply detailed.)

actually here's YvonneGilbert's web site...maybe you can see if they style feels right...
