undead and others
Rather than utilizing the generic - and overdone - versions of vampires and zombies, ghosts and ghouls that we're all so familiar with, why not tread off the beaten track a bit. Every culture has some sort of vampire legend - though apparently the Mexican goat sucker is becoming quite the rage - whose legends and idenities are abnormal to those most Westeners are used to and may inspire more.
Or reap the legends of old; would a Wendigo be undead (wendigos are created when a human develps a taste for human meat and turns cannibalistic, in the process it becomes something other.)
Or just reclassify something as undead or whatever term you prefer that perhaps isn't. The elves of the Unseelie Court. The Fear Liath More - a particularly gruesome Scottish beastie that inspires suicide in those it approaches.
Really, what besides zombies and vampires are really 'undead'?
Anyway, good hunting.
