Recommend Your Magical Reads!
Please post magic-themed books that you recommend.
Here are mine:
Til We Have Faces by C.S Lewis, my very favorite book.
Fanfiction on endicott-studio.com
The Nutcracker by E.T.A Hoffman; my first favorite story ever.
Tithe by Holly Black
Peter Pan by James M.Barrie
Politically Correct Bedtime Stories by James Finn Garner; I'm not really a feminist but these are funny all the same.
The Rose and the Beast by Franscesca Lia Block; I love it, though some don't. It's very lyrical and poetic retellings of fairytales, though they are dark.
Zel by Donna Jo Napoli; as a kid I thought Rapunzel was boring. It takes a skilled author to make a girl in a tower as fascinating as this story.
Anything by Charles de Lint
Wicked; The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire; what can I say, I love anything Oz.
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll; a brilliant story by a brilliant man that never fails to release its magic.
The Little Prince by Antoine Saint-Exupery; if for some reason the story fails to be magical, the illustrations certainly are.
Coraline and MirrorMask by Neil Gaiman; both frighteningly bizarre and wonderful.
The Unicorns of Balinor by Mary Stanton; a surprisingly good series, though again for young readers.
Afternoon of the Elves and The Golddust Letters, both by Janet Taylor Lisle; they're both for younger readers but still enjoyable.
Dangerous Angels by Franscesca Lia Block; it's magical though not based on myth, legend or fairytales.
Fairy Dust by Jane Denille Smith; another for young readers, yet still very good. I still remember it, which is saying something as I'm an avid reader and read it years ago.
Mary Poppins by P.L Travers; Practically perfect and magical in every way. :)
works by Gail Carson Levine
I'm working on reading a whole lot more magic themed stuff that is sure to be good as well.
