Little Red Riding Hood
Okay so everyone should know the basic story of Little Red Riding Hood. What is it saying to young girls?
The reference to the story of Little Red Riding hood is saying little girls should stick to the path if they fall off who knows what would happen. Is there anything else deeper or more meaningful going on?

Re: Little Red Riding Hood
This story has a pretty rich and varied history...depending on which variant one reads. Have a look at this article by Terri Windling on the Endicott Studio: Journal for Mythic Arts

Little Red Riding Hood
Certainly the earlier versions of Little Red warned young girls not to speak to strangers they met in the woods - the implication was that they really might be werewolves.

earliest versions
Most of the earliest recorded versions (taken from the oral tale referred to as "The Grandmother's Tale") seemed to suggest that a girl had to sacrifice some of her innocence in order to gain the wisdom of her elders, and to be able to take care of herself in a potentially dangerous situation. Which the earliest LLRH did.
