Anyone else remember this Fairy Tales TV show?
I'm not sure if it's appropriate for here or not, but i'd really love the name of this show i used to watch as a kid. It was on Nick probably 10 years ago now. everyday (i think) they told a different fairy tale with different characters. I remember it was sort of an anime (ish) style animation. I have Snow White on tape somewhere, my father taped it for me once but he cut off the theme song and the title. The beginning theme song was accompanied by a girl is a pink peasant type dress flying around over witches and goblins and castles, with a horse drawn carriage carrying away a prince and princess.
I remember a fantastic episode of Rapunzel, 12 dancing princesses, one with a girl and her magic shoes. That story whose name escapes me at the moment about a poor man who was promised to have a handful of gold every time he reached into his pocket, but he had to go without shaving or washing for so many years first, and in the meantime he looked for a wife who would want him as he was. He went to the house of a wealthy woman and her daughters, and one of those daughters saw past his filthy appearance and said she would marry him. So he left and came back so many months later all rich and good looking to wisk her away??
I'd love to get the series on tape if it exsists. Anyone know??
P.S. Not trying to clutter the board, just excited to find other
people who don't think i'm crazy for my fairy tales obsession :lol

Re: Anyone else remember this Fairy Tales TV show?
That would be (Saban's) Grimm's Fairy Tales, aka Grimm's Masterpiece Theatre, and it was anime. There were tapes available and I use to have a couple. I've since transferred them to AVIs. I don't know if DVDs are available. I suggest hunting second-hand stores for children's videos. Don't forget to try the local library.

The theme song is available here:

Tapes!
Some of the episodes were released by Fisher Price in the early to mid-90's under the subtitle of Grimm's Fairy Tales. I know they had The Golden Goose, Snow White and Rose Red, Briar Rose, Hansel and Gretel, and Little Red Riding Hood. I own Briar Rose and my video store still has The Frog Prince, Snow White and Rose Red, and Golden Goose. You can try Ebay, just search for Grimm's Fairy Tales under DVD's and Movies.
BTW, what was the Snow White episode like? I've always been curious.
Also, if you are interested, the same company called Saban Animation released a series of 4 to 5 videos in the late 80's called My Favorite Fairy Tales, many of these are good fun and very entertaining. Look for them too.
There is another video tape that was released from Children's Video Library called Fairy Tale Classics that is well worth the purchase as well as Vid America's wonderful and dream like Forever Fairytales, which is a wonderful series of videos with 3 tales on each and are divided into the authors who wrote them.

Re: Tapes!
Thanks alot! I'll look those up as well.
The Snow White episode was lovely. I'm not sure which version it
was based off of. In the episode the evil Queen asks Snow White
to her chamber to "discuss" something (which she's never
done before) Once there she shows SW her reflection in a golden
mirror, and asks her how she feels about the way she looks. When
SW says that she thinks she "isn't bad looking" the Queen
tries to kill her, but SW's best friend rescues her, fights off
the gaurds and hurries her away into the forest and on a journey
to his Uncle's
kingdom. Unfortunately, more then halfway there the
Queen's hired assassin catches up with them and SW and her friend
get seperated in the fight. The assassin is eventually killed by
a wild boar and SW is (again) rescued by a pack of wolves who alert
the dwarfs to her presence in the forest. The Queen goes through
the motions of the silk laces and the apple as usual, but is aided
by a witch in the episode. Another difference in that all the dwarfs
fall in love with SW. They build her a beautiful bedroom, and make
her gifts to see who she'll marry. The whole time her friend and
his cousin (the prince) and out in the forest searching for her.
They only find her once she's already dead ofcoarse, and even with
the prince standing there it's still a bear who tips over her glass
coffin and frees the tiny peice of apple from her throat. I beleive
the Queen dies in the end as well...i forget from what...oh right!
The wolves rip her apart as she flees.Good wolves. :lol

wow
that's an original take on the story. Pretty dark and twisted for a cartoon

It was great.
I loved this show. I actually once downloaded the whole series to my hard drive, since I couldn't find any videos of it on auction (not even the Japanese tapes).
It's take on "The Fox and the Wolf" is what started me as a fox fan.

Rose Red and Snow White
Hey, I just found this website and I'm really excited about it! I've been looking for this cartoon version of Snow White and Rose Red for a long time and I think I just found it. If the cartoon show really did come from Saban's Grimm Fairy Tales, then was Snow White and Rose Red the version of the two girls who lived in the woods with their mother? And later they met a talking brown bear and one of the girls found a prince injured in the forest and there was that really mean dwarf in it?! If it was, then I finally found the right one!
