Some quick questions...
I'm trying to find two things- 1. The earliest musical sources of the Thomas the Rhymer (true thomas, Thomas Rymer, Thomas De Erceldoune, etc.). Would anyone have an Idea of where I would look?
2. I'm looking for a short story, or fairytale emphasising Virtue.
Any help would be much appreciated. And thanks for a wonderful website, by the way.
Blessings- True

virtue
Different fairy tales emphasize different virtues. "Mother Holle / Mother Hulda" emphasizes compassion or willing work, and respect and obedience. "The Queen Bee" emphasized compassion to animals. Several 'three brothers' kinds of stories emphasize generosity and/or non-snobbishness. Some versions of "The Water of Life" emphasize following complicated instructions. "The Magic Flounder" is about not being greedy, not pushing for more favors.

Re: virtue
I believe that many of the medieval songs and stories were preserved by the monks, but if you locate a good archive you might find a copy. I would reccomend a university archive, likely one of those big English ones.
