The rabbit and the dragon.
Hello,

Recently a dear friend sent me a wonderful gift. It's a cloudy/milky white agate with a copper rabbit sitting atop a dragon surrounding it. She got it from a monk at a monestary while traveling in Tibet many years ago. It's not valuable, in the monetary sense, but just the thought behind it. She said the monk told her a story that this item represents but it was vague in her mind. The ending was with the rabbit riding atop the dragon in the sky.

I know this isn't a lot to go on, but I have been searching for the whole legend. If anyone could help point me in the right direction I would be so grateful.

Thank you

Re: The rabbit and the dragon.
This is interesting and ties in with the thread about Chinese celestial animals. What I gathered from discussing it with a Chinese friend was that when you see two animals, combined as it were - it might be a horse with a monkey on its back - the message is that the horse possesses the clever qualities of the monkey as well as its own attributes ie success and prosperity. The dragon represents power. It's the boss animal ! I'm not sure about the attributes of the rabbit. But the figure will be about the combining of these qualities. These figures are often made of beautiful materials like jade or agate as you describe. I think it's fascinating. Have you seen the celestial horse flying on a swallow's back?

Re: The rabbit and the dragon.
I think the rabbit represents speed. The dragon is often used as the symbol for the Emperor. I believe the "strong and fast" combination would be meant to represent either a martial arts ability or a business philosophy.
