References to fairytales in Shrek
I am currently compiling a list of the fairy tales shown in shrek. I am also including nursery rhymes and myths. They are not only characters or items appearing in the movie but also ideas, like that of the tower fiona being trapped in being like that of Rapunzel.
My list now numbers around 60 and I was wondering if anyone else would have any ideas to what some other fairytale references could be.
Thanks

Re: shrek
I'm assuming you've listened to the DVD commentary. They point out a few of the more obvious ones.
You could look at a complete list of stories such as Grimms (there's about 200 of them) and use it as a checklist.
I'm not sure if such a list could be completely accurate, since there are a few characters such as the witches that could be ambiguous.

Re: shrek
...Really? Which story did the Ugly Stepsister from "Shrek
2" come from?
But seriously, this sounds eerily like what happened when the original movie came out, the very first weekend--
And every animation fan was so utterly convinced the movie was "punishing
Disney for its crimes", and would singlehandedly "shut
down the studio" (and, well, guess it did, indirectly, but
that's another story), that every single fairytale reference
was construed as "a slam at Disney"...And, as they seemed
to believe Disney had written every fairytale in existence, the
filmmakers seemed to be included:
"Oh, man, there was a Three Bears gag, and that's a total
rip on Disney's 'Three Bea--'....oh, wait a second."
