Facetious Nights of Straparola
I am working on adding the entire four volumes of W. G. Waters'
English translation of Straparola's Facetious Nights to SurLaLune
including the illustrations. I'm only a third of the way through
volume 1 so far, but will hopefully have all completed by mid-May.

To my knowledge, this will be the first time Straparola's text will be available in English on the web. It's rather hard to find in print for that matter, so I hope this will be a wonderful addition to SurLaLune.
Now, if I am ever brave enough, I will also add Maria Roalfe Cox's Cinderella Bibliography But that will be a very, very time consuming process. I'm not sure if I'm up to it by myself.

Thanks! I finished adding 28 illustrations last night. Some plates were missing from volume 1, but most were there.
Also, feel free to pass along any editorial mistakes. Several words have spaces in them which I have a hard time seeing every time. The spell checker doesn't always find them if the separate fragments are words in their own right.

Can I just say that Google is fast? I only uploaded the first pages of Facetious Nights 48 hours ago and already SurLaLune is indexed and the top hit for "Facetious Nights Straparola." And it's in the top ten for a search for "Straparola."
Anyway, just finished the Third Night which features Biancabella,
a handless maiden tale.

I'm almost done adding the entire text to SurLaLune. I have to finish two tales, the terminal essay and the notes.
More books coming soon. I want to add a collection of Russian Tales since they are scarce on the web, too.

Russian tale - blind man's buff with a bear
If you're going to do Russian tales, please please include the one titled "Daughter and Step-daughter" that has the kind sister going into the woods to live alone in a mud hut, and playing blind man's buff with a bear.
I'd be glad to do the scanning and OCR on that one, if Helen will send me a copy (English or Russian) or enough information that I can order it in some public domain source through inter-library loan.

I don't know of an out-of-copyright version of that tale. If you find one published before 1923 please let me know.
For now I am going to add Post Wheeler's 1912 version of his Russian
Wonder Tales and eventually Arthur Ransome's Old Peter's Russian
Tales. Wheeler's book is almost completely up now actually.
I've finished the tales of Straparola, but still have to muck through the terminal essay and the notes.

If anyone can point me to an out of copyright version in Russian (or any other language), I'll hire someone to translate it as a 'work made for hire' and put it into public domain.
I'd need title and perhaps author and date of the public domain book, and what page this story starts on.
