Asrai - Forgotten Folk-Tales of the English Countries
In AN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF FAIRIES, I came across a reference to the Asrai. I looked it up on the web and mainly found the same definition from Pantheon.org on a variety of sites. Anyone have Forgotten Folk-Tales of the English Countries by Ruth Tongue - Brigg's reference - who'd be willing to either share more about the stories? Or anyone know more about the Asrai from other sources?

Thanks!

Re: Asrai - Forgotten Folk-Tales of the English Countries
It's been a long time since I read that book, but IIRC, the story is rather sad -- fisherman catches asrai, wants to show her off to everyone and make money, asrai cries, and eventually withers and dissolves in the boat before they even reach the shore. They don't seem to have enough power to cause any harm to those who offend them, but again, it's been a while since I read the book.

Thanks Catja - this is the way they're described in Briggs.
