Russian/East European version of Handless Maiden
Hi,
I've been trying to track down any Russian or Eastern European versions of the Handless Maiden. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Russian/East European version of Handless Maiden
Doris,
The Thompson/Arne tale types and motif index list quite a few actually--if you have access to a university library you should be able to find them there--and the collections in which the listed stories appear. Check under Tale Type 705-712 "The Banished Wife or Maiden" Listed there you will find references to Slovenian, Czech, Serbocroatian, Polish and Ukraine along with Russian, Estonian and Lithuanian. I don't have the book in front of me so I can't look up the actual titles to these works--I only have their code numbers and abreviations...
You could check The Folktales of the Magyars ed. by Rev.
Henry Jones and Lewis L. Kropf: London 1889. "The Girl Without
Hands" (pg.182-188)

Re: Russian/East European version of Handless Maiden
it's listed as "The Armless Maiden" in Afanasjev's
collection, and is included in the pantheon edition of the same.
