Fairy Tale Events-Boston/Providence region
Please note the following upcoming events at Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts related to the current exhibition, "Grimms Fairy Tales Reinterpreted." This exhibition, organized by the Society of Arts and Crafts, Boston, features works created by artists in reaction to Grimms' fairy tales including stories such as "The Girl with No Hands", "Hans the Hedgehog" and others.
October 21, 7 p.m., Lecture by therapist Louise Dery-Wells on the Feminine in Grimm’s Fairy Tales. “Tales of Redemption: The Feminine in Fairy Tales,” is the topic of a free lecture presented by Louise Dery-Wells L.I.C.S.W. at Fuller Craft Museum on Thursday, October 21st at 7 p.m. Dery-Wells is a poet and psychotherapist in private practice in Middleborough who specializes in deep healing work and uses fairy tales in her practice to illuminate developmental themes in the lives of women. She explains that fairy tales are allegories which have been passed down through the generations in folk culture to help orient us on our pathway toward adulthood and psychological wholeness. Dery-Wells invites the public to explore the feminine in fairy tales and the deeper meaning of the marriage of the Prince and Princess that marks their joyous and successful conclusion. November 4, 7 p.m., Book signing and presentation by Maria Tatar, author of The Annotated Classic Fairy Tales, The Annotated Brothers Grimm, and The Hard Facts of the Grimm’s Fairy Tales. Tatar, the John L. Loeb Professor of Germanic Languages and Literatures at Harvard College and the Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, will lead a discussion on issues and themes in Grimm’s Fairy Tales which will be followed by a book signing. Books will be available for purchase at Fuller Craft both before and during the event. Free with paid museum admission.
November 5, 4 p.m., Picturebook Storytime with Barbra Nadler, Librarian at Sharon Public Library. Children and their families are invited to come enjoy picture books of select Grimm’s Fairy Tales related to Fuller Craft’s current exhibition Grimm’s Fairy Tales Reinvented as read by Barbra Nadler of Sharon Public Library. Free with paid museum admission.
