Chun Hyang Tale
I'm hoping someone on the board might have run across the original version of this legend. I tried to search online or to find a book of Korean stories that gives a good summary, if not a retelling in English of the legend of Chun Hyang. So far the best I've gotten is sites on the festival celebrating her and her story. But no luck on the story itself.
Can anyone recommend a book or found a site in their long online legend wanderings that gives it?
P.S. Yes, I have the manga CLAMP wrote that's inspired on this legend. Just need a folktale or history source with the actual story now.
Thanks in advance you guys.:)

Re: Chun Hyang Tale
You might try Heinz Insu Fenkl's website for Korean Folktales that offers a multitude of resources. Heinz is a well respected and very prodigious translator in the US of Korean Folktales. (in addition to be a wonderful author.)

Re: Chun Hyang Tale
PS I just checked into your Anime Myth website--wowie what a great
site. I wanted to let you know that I have posted an announcement
about the website in two places (Web Graphic Arts and Mythic Links)
on the Endicott bulletin Board (pub31.ezboard.com/bendicottstudioformythicarts)
and want to invite you to please feel free to post future announcements
either about your site or mythic anime in the future.
Thanks again for the work on your site. (I am also adding it as a link on my Homework page at the highschool I teach in...as the moderator for the Anime Homeroom it makes me loom really good!)

Re: Chun Hyang Tale
Thanks Midori. :D
I'll go through that site and see what I can find.
What do you teach in high school? I used to work at the high school level, now I'm working with special ed. at middle school level. And loving it! Picked up a book today at Barnes and Noble since they're having an educator's discount this month and it has exercises for folklore in the classroom. One of these days I'd like to put up some kind of section for using anime and folklore in the classroom; just have to catch up on all the things I need to do first.

Re: Chun Hyang Tale
I teach English in a boys Jesuit college prepatory highschool--where
I am shorter than the freshman. I do manage to work in a fair amount
of fantastic literature (and creative writing...something they hunger
to do). I am also the associate editor of the Endicott
Studio for Mythic Arts working with Terri Windling. We put up
the Bulletin Board to accompnay the site about a year ago to have
a place to announce events, publications, appearances, whatever
was out there that might be of interest to our readers. I am actually
able to make use of Endicott in my classes...send my students to
read up on a subject.
