Mulan?
I had heard that the Disney movie came from a legend in China and was curious about what the story was. Does anyone here know where I might be able to find it?

Re: Mulan?
There are a number of versions of Fa Mulan available. The oldest
is an anonymous "Ode to Mulan" from the 5 the A.D. which
you can find here www.chinapage.com/mulan-e.html.
It's really pretty bare bones...so naturally over time, Mulan's
story and reputation has grown quite a bit. Robert San Souci did
a gorgeous version of the story in a picture book for kids and then
Maxine Hong Kingston took on the story in her Woman Warrior,
My Life Among Ghosts in the chapter called "White Tigers"--which
you can often find anthologized.
The Disney film is actually rather nice...for a change. Some of the visual moments are pretty stunning bits of animation.

Mulan
I love the scene where she decides to go in her father's place. The music and animation were amazing.
Thank you for the link. It's a shame she isn't as well known as Cinderella or Rapunzel... I think I'll take it with me next time I babysit.
