Frenzy of Sweeney
Hello All,

I am in the midst of doing a bit of research about Mad Sweeney or the tale of the Frenzy of Sweeney. I believe that I've read through all of the non-fiction articles and even whole books researching the tale, but am now looking for fictional stories and books in which he plays a prominent role.

thank you,
Erin

American Gods
Neil Gaiman's novel "American Gods" features Mad Sweeney as a minor character, placing him in modern-day America alongside deities struggling to adapt to a world that doesn't care for them. His role in the book is pivotal, if not prominent, but he's certainly one of the more memorable characters, and I'd recommend the book on its own steam -- it's one of my current favourites, and a great read.

Re: American Gods
Yes, I enjoyed American Gods very much. Gaiman excels in illuminating the strange stirrings of our collective unconscious.

thanks,
E

Sweeney
I'm not sure about this, but Terry Pratchett's Discworld books sport a character by the name of Wee Mad Arthur who might be a variant of Sweeney. Since I'm not as familiar with S, I'm not certain if this is relevant to you.

Re: Sweeney
I feel like such a dolt. Having just finished American Gods 2 months ago I can't believe I didn't pick up on the Sweeney reference. But yes having resisted reading this book for so long I must now recommend it strongly to everyone as well. In fact since I'm going to the Bristol Ren Faire this summer, I'm thinking I'm going to have to take a detour to the House on the Rock!
