NEGATIVE/POSITIVE
EFFECTS OF FAIRYTALES
I'm still searching for help with my speech, I've come acroos another problem, what are the negative effects that fairytales have on children (motive for an argument) and what are the positive effectts that they have on children (motive for another argument). Thank you very much

Well, I don't buy a bit of it, but there was some research done at Purdue University this past year showing that fairy tales have a negative effect on girls' self images. It created quite a hub-bub. If you look in the archives here in about November/October you should find a reference to the article.
As for the positive effects, there are a number of earlier discussions here about them, but I like Kate Bernheimer's book "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall" which is a collection of essays by women authors about the impact of fairy tales on their lives. It is interesting. I am sure others will give you more relevant sources though. Have you checked out "Touch Magic" by Jane Yolen? It is considered one of the seminal works on the topic. Within this slim volume you will find a vast number of well supported arguments advancing the benefits of fairy tales and folklore for children and adults.

Positive effects
of fairytales on children
I am currently writing a research paper in school about the positive
effects of fairy tales of children. Thanks to this thread and others,
I have been able to find many books on the subject. However I am
also required to have 3 internet recourses. Of course I will be
using this wonderful site as one of them, but I need two more dealing
with information and/or viewpoints on this subject. Any suggestions
would be appreciated! Thanks!
