It articulates many things about the series that I've felt but haven't quite been able to put into words, especially in the essay's end. Also, I was very interested in his thoughts on the Tolkien vs Milton strains of fantasy. The issues that he discusses are exactly the ones that made me embrace the novels at the beginning of the series, and retreat from them in discomfort towards the end.
