Guivre story?
I was researching some info on dragon origin in fairy tales and was suprised to find a little french story about a dragon called a Guivre that blushed and ran away when it met up with a naked man! I tried to find out more, but the only other info was that it possibly referred to a female dragon with breasts. Has anybody else heard of this story? Has anyone written anything else on guivres?

guivres
Thanks, Jen, for adding to my repertoire of dragons ! I don't know where you researched for this-have you checked out www.dragonsinn.info-there are pages on historical dragons, fictional dragons, and much more. Though the guivre was listed under Fictional, they didn't give a source. What really intrigues me on the site is the painting of the guivre-it's not clear whether the guivre is part- reptile- part- woman(i.e. with both reptilian tail AND a woman's legs) or whether it is a two-headed reptile who simply likes the company of women. Either way, it does seem to be definitely female in orientation-and I loved the story of it blushing at the sight of a naked man ! This sounds very much like a Christian accretion to a much older myth, doesn't it ?

Re: guivres
Rosyelf - I originally found it as "The Guivre and the Gargouille" at http://www.fortunecity.com/rivendell/shalimar/1152/dragstories/guivre.html.
