What is this German fairytale
When I was a child in school, (Germany, Military Brat) I was in
German class and our Teacher read us a German fairy tale. I cant
remember the name or even the whole story. All I can remember is
that I loved that story and I think of it to this day.The one part
I remember is a a dragon being slain, and the main character bathed
in the blood, and in turn, made his skin impregnable except for
on place on his shoulder where a leaf fell. ( If I recall correctly.
) Can anyone help me with this one. Iv been trying for some 26 years
to find out the title of this fairy tale. If Im not mistaken it
originates from Hessen.

Today the legend is popularly known as "Siegfried Slays the Dragon," perhaps thanks to Wagner's opera titled "Siegfried," part of the Ring Cycle.
However, the tale is from the "The Saga of the Volsungs: The Norse Epic of Sigurd the Dragon Slayer." Here's a link to a version of the saga online:

What is this German fairytale
Thanks so much for your help and quick response. Ive started reading it, but Im not sure if it is the same story as of yet. Do you know which chapter it is that I spoke of.(slaying of dragon etc.) And do you know of a storybook versionby chance?
