The Twelve Months
When I was a chlid I remember watching this old cartoon show that told fairy tales and fables from around the world. One of the them (I think it was Russian) about a girl who lived with her stepmother and stepsister in the country. On the day of the stepsister's birthday(in the middle of winter) the stepmother sends the girl out for viloets for the party, knowing this was an impossible task to keep the girl from enjoying the party.
She goes into the forest as a snow strom begins and walks and walk until she finds a secluded area inthe forsets where the spirits of the months are holding a meeting. They ask her what she is doing out on a cold day, and when she tells them about her errand for violets. They decide to help her out and the Spirit of February calls forth violets for her.
When she gets back, both the stepmother and stepsister are amazed, but send her out for apples. Again, she goes out and talks to the spirits of the months, and September gives her apples.
She returns home only to have to go back out for strawberries. The Spirits help her out again and when she returns, her stepmother and stepsister decide that they want more strawberries and they go out to find them. But they get lost in the snow storm and die, and the girl is adopted by a loving family.
