Rock a bye baby
Wondering if anyone besides me has every read the story behind rock a bye baby...something to do, yes, with the baby being left in the cradle by the river, the bough does break, the cradle flows downstream with the baby girl and is caught in the eddie of a sea cave. the girl grows up in the cave by the sea... I saw something that claims the lullaby was written by someone on the mayflower but ithink that's bunk... the only problem is my brother no longer has this book - it was very old and had wonderful illustrations - old being much older than 50 yearsbut not quite sure of publication date possibly arounf the 20's or 30's.

Re: Rock a bye baby
The explanation usually given is that it was a Colonial rhyme based on seeing Native American women putting their children in their binding boards and then hanging the board from a tree. As the tree moved in the wind, the board rocked the baby to sleep.
