Illustrated Book Proposals
As you may know, I am an Illustrator, and after years of struggling to write my own stories (i'm no writer!), I've finally teamed up with a writer to create a Picture Book proposal, which we plan to be the first of many. A picture book proposal consists of a story (generally) between 400 - 1000 words plus 1-3 finished illustrations.

I am wondering if there are any writers in this group who might like to join me to create a proposal for a Picture Book or other Illustrated book. Many publishers prefer to choose their own illustrators, but more and more are looking for a complete package and most of the time they want the complete package from one person who writes AND illustrates, but those people are hard to find. Of course, the risk in teaming up with someone is that the story OR illustrations may be accepted for publication ... and one of the team is rejected, it could go either way. It's a risk, but the market is extremely competitive at present and I think that if you want to get somewhere then you have to go out on a limb. There are many Illlustrators who have formed partnerships with Writers and produce proposals on a regular basis ... occasionally leading to publication. Perhaps we shall be lucky.

On a personal note, I have a Masters in Illustration (specialising in Fairy Tale illustration), have worked on around a dozen published books (mostly on the themes of myths, religion and legends) and have taught Illustration at a tertiary level. I have travelled to India, Greece, Cyprus, Italy & Egypt, studying the Art of those places and working on the occasional Archaeological dig.

If you are a writer and are interested, or just curious about the pros and cons of teaming up, i'd love to hear from you, either here or by email at celestycat@ozemail.com.au

The Accidental Sage
Thank you for the kind words about my work Lisa.
I went to your site and read your story samples. I found them ALL enjoyable, but there was one that grabbed me ... The Accidental Sage. I think it was the blue cloak that got me, as I love painting rich brocades and I'm seeing a mix of Prussian and Cobalt blues with threads of Rose Madder and Silver in my head ... being an Illustrator, I do tend to read in glorious technicolour .... Anyway, thank you for replying and I'd love to read the ending of the Accidental Sage, if that's ok.
