Favorite retellings of fairy tales?
Hey. I just got done reading Sleeping Beauty illustrated by Christian Birmingham and retold by Adele Geras and I have to saw WOW!!! It is very rare that fairy tale books nowadays get such treatment. Especially when it comes to the details and descriptions. Geras is a true master and while I was reading this particular version, I kept on thinking, I have never read a Sleeping beauty book with such attention to detail to the text. I love Scott Gustafson's book of fairy tales but the text is pretty standard when it comes to the stories.
I am surprised I never came across one of her books before at the bookstore but where I live it's a very small area. Her re-telling of Sleeping Beauty and Christian Birmingham's illustrations are absolutely a dream come true and I have to say that it is my favorite version of sleeping beauty that i have read. Any other's that people would like to recommend?

Re: Favorite retellings of fairy tales?
I haven't had the opportunity to view the book myself, but the paintings Adele Geras features on her website are lush. Just visit:
www.adelegeras.com/forthcoming.html
Also, there is a link for the book with the cover art on the front page of SurLaLune now. The information on Amazon is incorrect--it references Geras' earlier Sleeping Beauty Ballet book. But the ISBN is correct which is all that matters for getting the right book when it's released. Here's a direct link to Amazon, too:

Re: Favorite retellings of fairy tales?
thanks heidi. I visited adele's website about two months ago as
the book was released in europe in october 2003. The pictures are
absolutely wonderful too. If anyone on this board is interested
in buying the book and having it before april 2004. I already bought
and received the book from a UK online bookstore called Country
Book Shop. I ended up paying over $30.00 for it but to me, it was
well worth it. Thanks again

Artsfan,
I recently discovered this charming Cinderella title only available in the UK now, too. Amazon lists it, but only offers it used. Here's a link to it on Amazon.co.uk:
