I am interested in mouse and rat stories for several years. The story is known as "The musician from Hameln" and has some interesting variants. Why are You interested in it? I could help a little.

The man was so much a musician it was disgusting to hear him play so he lived with the farthest of back creatures hoping to find his way back in.

No, zinemaker, it was believed that the mice's cries are the voices of the dead people. And there was also an ancient practice of killing one rat/mouse in as cruel way as possible for the purpose of frighting it's "relatives" and make them leave the house.
