The Skriker
I'm reading a play called The Skriker by Caryl Churchill and I'm trying to decode all of the references in the opening speech.
I'm thinking about doing this play at school next semester, so I'm trying to pull together a lot of information on it and the stories it references.
The Skriker herself is described as a "twisted, aging" fairy and she speaks in a manner that I suppose can be described as word-association. She is basically a Rumplestiltskin figure and very early on in the speech she mentions spinning straw into gold and mentions Tom Tit Tot by name. But then she goes on to talk about a pie filled with hot metal, "gave me red hot metal in a piping hot metal in a pie" and so on. Then the next sentence talks about calling a vicor for an exorcism. If you want to read the passage you can find it on amazon.

I was wondering if anyone might know what story this is alluding to. Throughout the opening she also references changlings and a character - who is mentioned, but is also in the play - called Bloody Bones. Does anyone have any ideas on what these references might be?

Re: The Skriker
About Bloody Bones -
According to this
website, old Bloody Bones is a Cornish spirit who haunts holes and
crevices.
The name also appears in African
American Folklore.
Well, it's not much but I hope some of it helps :)

Hee!
Thanks for that link, that's a great site. I forgot to mention that all of the references are supposed to be to English traditions, so that's a very useful page. Thanks!
